FOOD TRIP: BORACAY

The island of Boracay is truly a paradise destination not only during summer, but also the whole year round. Though it is famous for its fine sand and crystal clear waters, Boracay offers more than just its amazing beaches, with an array of fun activities to choose from, and who would ever forget about FOOD!

Surprisingly, food in Boracay is pretty affordable. Although a lot of fine dining restaurants surrounded the shore, there are a lot of nice food joints to choose from as you walk inside the D' MALL at station 1. The variety of cuisine will definitely feed every hungry man's appetite, from traditional Filipino cuisine, to Indian, Mexican and American cuisine. You may not notice but common fast food joints found in our own cities are not found anywhere within the 3 Stations of Boracay. No common fast food restaurants like Jollibee, Mc Donald's and KFC, which I think is a good thing. You only get to experience the island once a year (twice or more for others) so it is only fair to eat the flavors that the island has to offer rather than binge at the same fast food joints you can find at home.

Mango shakes are everywhere! Almost every corner there is a mango shake stand which whips up refreshing ice cold shakes. Mangoes in Boracary are surprisingly inexpensive too. I couldn't resist having green mangoes and bagoong (shrimp paste) for snacks. What a heavenly treat!

Did I mention that the seafood is totally inexpensive? Some restaurants have tables outside that showcase a wide variety of seafood that you can buy and have these cooked anyway you want. D' TALIPAPA is a more casual food court style dining joint with different stalls selling the freshest seafood and more at very affordable prices.

Craving for steaks? I ♥ BACKYARD BARBECUE is the place to be! located inside D' MALL, it offers the biggest and baddest tower of onion rings for appetizers! Every plate is a masterpiece. It serves the best steaks for meat lovers, as well as tasty seafood dishes. And while waiting for your order, you will never go bored staring at the witty walls inside the restaurant which are filled with funny posters and witty quotes.

Every good meal deserves a good desert and Don Vito Gelato is probably the most popular gelato joint in the island. For 100pesos, you can have 2 scoops of any flavor. I recommend the Cheesecake, Tiramisu and Ferrero flavors.

Food trip in Boracay doesn't end when the sun goes down. In fact, food festivities start at sunset. Different restaurants set up their own food buffet with unlimited iced tea! That's all you can eat dishes including seafood and dessert. With buffet menus lined up on the shores, you will be overwhelmed by the different dishes they have.

When you go to a certain place, there are three things you should look for. The sights, the experience, and the food. And Boracay definitely passes those three criteria, because in Boracay, you will never go hungry!
